Details
At the start of this Okavango Delta & Chobe Botswana Safari, you are collected from the Maun airport. The bustling town of Maun is the closest base for exploring the beautiful Okavango Delta, one of the wildest areas in Africa.
From Maun, your guide drives you to the Khwai Guest House, which lies in the remote Khwai village, some three and a half hours from Maun. Our first three nights are spent at the guest house in this traditional village on the fringes of the famous Moremi Game Reserve.
On a typical day at Khwai Guest House, we get up at sunrise and have breakfast, before setting off on our morning activity. At about midday, we return to the guest house for lunch followed by leisure time. In the afternoon we set off on our next activity, leaving at about 15h30 (depending on the season). We return from the afternoon activity in time for a tasty dinner back at the guest house.
We explore both Moremi Game Reserve and the Khwai Concession Area with experienced guides. Embark on game drives in open safari vehicles, including thrilling night drives. Set off on bush walks (seasonal) and glide along the waterways by traditional mokoro (dug-out canoe). Exploring the game-rich Moremi Reserve of the Okavango Delta by mokoro is an unforgettable wilderness experience.
On day four of our Botswana Safari, we take off on our scenic flight over the untamed bush and rural Botswana, flying to Kasane. The exhilarating flight takes us from the Khwai River region to the Chobe National Park area, near the border with Zambia, Zimbabwe, and Namibia. Touching down at the Kasane airport in our small fixed-wing plane we drive to Chobe Elephant Camp, traveling along the edge of Chobe National Park en route.
Our next safari camp is an eco-friendly haven, based on the design of traditional homesteads in rural Africa. The eco-camp is located on a stony ridge rising above the floodplains of the Chobe River, so it has great views over the open bush!
We spend our days at Chobe Elephant Camp enjoying a variety of exciting activities, conducted by expert guides from the local area. Wildlife highlights include boat-based game viewing on the Chobe River and open vehicle game drives in Chobe National Park. You also have the opportunity to experience the local culture and see how people live in the rural villages close to the safari camp. In between cultural and game-viewing activities, there is time to relax at the lodge, swim in the pool, and watch animals and birds from the viewing deck at the watering hole.
Days generally start with an early breakfast at the camp, around 6h00 or 6h30. After breakfast and in the late afternoons we embark on activities, with lunch in between (at about midday). Dinner is served at about 19h30 or 20h00, followed by free time to relax at the camp. The timing of meals varies according to the seasons, transfers, and activities.
The camp offers a full-day activity which includes an afternoon boat cruise on the Chobe River. We set off on a morning game drive in Chobe National Park after breakfast at Chobe Elephant Camp. At about midday or in the early afternoon we leave the game park, enjoying a picnic lunch in the national park before we leave for Kasane, or on the boat (depending on wildlife sightings). Arriving in Kasane we set off on the Chobe River cruise, usually spotting elephants, other animals and birds from the boat. After the boat cruise, we return to camp for sundowners or take a short sunset game drive in Chobe National Park.
Waking up in the African wilderness on the last day of our safari we have breakfast together at the camp, before being transferred to the airport in nearby Kasane. As one of the main travel hubs in northern Botswana, the Kasane airport operates international flights to major cities in the region.
